World AIDS Day 2023

Every year, on the 1st of December, the world commemorates World AIDS Day, raising awareness about HIV and AIDS around the globe. It is a call to action to enable and support communities in their leadership roles.

The theme of World AIDS Day 2023 is ‘Let communities lead,’ highlighting the fact that programs and initiatives perform better when driven by the most impacted communities. Despite significant progress thanks to advancements in medical research, increased access to treatment and prevention, and global advocacy efforts ensuring access to these advancements, critical challenges remain to achieve the proposed 2030 goals.

According to the WHO, HIV remains a significant global public health issue, with some countries reporting increasing trends in new infections when previously on the decline. Empowering communities and promoting scientific research and innovation encourages progress in HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and care around the world.
