Investment in combating antimicrobial resistance through promotion of better hygiene, curtailing the over-prescription of antibiotics, providing patients with rapid, point-of-care testing to distinguish bacterial infections from viral ones, timely prescribing of appropriate antibiotics, and public education and behavior change campaigns could counter one of the biggest threats to modern medicine and would save lives and money in the long run, says OECD in a new report, Stemming the Superbug Tide: Just A Few Dollars More.
