The International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID) is pleased to announce Raul Gutierrez-Rodriguez as the new Director of Scientific Affairs. Raul is currently based in Lima, Peru and brings a wealth of industry and private practice experience to the team.
Raul is an infectious diseases physician with important experience in several pharmaceutical companies where he led medical affairs teams at local and above country level. Raul holds a MD degree from Universidad Nacional Federico Villarreal and a clinical specialty in Tropical and Infectious Diseases from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, both in Lima, Peru. In addition to his medical degree, he holds a master’s degree in Tropical and Infectious Diseases and was a fellow with the NIH-Fogarty International AIDS Research Program.
As Director of Scientific Affairs, Raul will be overseeing scientific content within ISID’s educational, medical, and professional development programs. ISID’s programs include international congresses like the International Congress on Infectious Diseases and the International Meeting on Emerging Diseases and Surveillance, online educational initiatives such as ISID’s online Knowledge Exchange platform, publications such as the International Journal of Infectious Diseases (IJID), IJID spin-off journals, and ISID’s Guide to Infection Control in the Healthcare Setting, grant programs, and ProMED-mail, the Program for Monitoring Emerging Diseases (ProMED).
Raul will be taking on a large portfolio here at the Society as we grow our advocacy and support of LMICs and bring world class Infectious Disease scientific content, education, event programming, and innovation to the world at large.
