International Infection Prevention Week has been highlighting the importance of infection prevention every third week of October since 1986 to educate stakeholders and the general public on the importance of preventing the spread of illnesses and infectious agents, keeping people safe, and protecting the community from infection.

Celebrating the Fundamentals of Infection Prevention
International Infection Prevention Week (IIPW) was established in 1986 to highlight the importance of infection prevention and control, targeting to educate stakeholders and the general public on the relevance of preventing the spread of illnesses and infectious agents including topics such as hand hygiene, infection safety, surgical site infections, impact on antibiotics rational use, that are considered among 2023's theme "Celebrating the Fundamentals of Infection Prevention."
Moving the Needle on Infection Prevention
International Infection Prevention Week was established in 1986. It is celebrated on the third week of October annually to raise awareness and highlight the significance of Infection Prevention. This year’s theme is “Moving the Needle on Infection Prevention.” The theme is apt, as public health and safety start by preventing hospital-acquired infections and other infectious disease threats.
