ProMED data to help hackers rise to Infectious Diseases Application Challenge in Nigeria
When a meningitis outbreak began recently in Zamfara State, North West Nigeria, the time it took news of the outbreak to reach federal level meant that the outbreak was able to spread to several Nigerian states, with significant associated mortality, before the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) could respond.
The Infectious Diseases Application Challenge being run May 18-20, 2018 in Abuja, Nigeria by EpiAFRIC is an opportunity for infectious disease health workers to collaborate with developers from the local tech ecosystem, using resources including ProMED data, to develop solutions that help will help prevent infectious diseases.
The event’s organizers hope that by the end of the three-day hackathon teams will have been able to build financially viable prototype solutions that could be implemented in Nigeria’s health sector to improve infectious disease surveillance, detection, notification and response.
