19th ICID Postponed Until September 10-13, 2020

Last Updated February 12, 2020

It is with an understanding of the critical roles our delegates, speakers, and Malaysian hosts have in addressing the current COVID-19 outbreak that we inform you that the 19th International Congress on Infectious Diseases (ICID) will be postponed to September 10-13, 2020. “The prevention of further spread and the effective containment of COVID-19 is our top priority,” says Marc Mendelson, President of ISID. “The people who attend the ICID are critical to the national, regional, and international response to the epidemic and are needed at home in order to engage with and protect their own communities.”

The International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID) and the Malaysian Society of Infectious Diseases and Chemotherapy (MSIDC), which organize the 19th ICID, are committed to the region and the community, as are the participants in the event.  The Congress will be rescheduled to September 10-13, 2020. The attendee response to the 19th ICID has been astounding and we are grateful for their awareness of the value of this event. However, our leadership understands that our community is necessary in action right now.

For more than 35 years, the ISID has been at the forefront of the global effort to prevent, detect, and contain emerging infectious diseases. As the world continues to grapple with the evolving novel coronavirus outbreak, the ISID and its Program for Monitoring Emerging Diseases (ProMED) will continue this work.

To our colleagues at the frontline of this evolving outbreak, we stand in solidarity with you. Please bear with us while we work on the details of the postponement and accept our sincere apologies for the inconveniences caused to you. We look forward to welcoming you in Kuala Lumpur later this year.

Zamberi Sekawi, President of MSIDC
