The ISID team is deeply saddened to hear about the passing of ISID's co-founder and a leader in the field of emerging infectious diseases, Jacques Acar. Jacques was always very committed to ISID and continued to serve long after his 15 years on the Executive Committee were over.
"It was on his return to France, after a final congress in the United States, that Jacques Acar was hospitalized on [Sat 20 Mar 2020] and became the victim of a rapid evolution of disease which would prevail a week later. After a life entirely dedicated to the fight against microbes, it was a virus that took him."
Jacques will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him, but he will remain in their hearts as we continue the important work Jacques began supporting health professionals, non-government organizations, and governments around the world in their work to prevent, investigate, and manage infectious disease outbreaks.
