ISID Welcomes Aisha Abubakar, Elkin Hernan Bermudez-Aza, and Daniel Cady to the Team

ISID is pleased to announce the newest additions to the growing international team: Aisha Abubakar and Elkin Hernan Bermudez-Aza as our new Managers of Scientific Programs, and Daniel Cady as our new Bookkeeper.

Aisha Abubakar

Aisha Abubakar (nee Ahmed Umar) [MBBS, MPH Field Epidemiology, FWACP] is a seasoned epidemiologist and Public Health Physician. She is a Professor/Consultant with the Ahmadu Bello University and the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital in Zaria, Northwestern Nigeria. Prof. Aisha Abubakar has a Master's degree in Public Health in Field Epidemiology from the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and a Postgraduate certificate in Health Research from the University of Lancaster, UK. She is also a Fellow of the Faculty of Community Health of the West African College of Physicians (FWACP).

As a resident of the Nigeria Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training program, she has supported the Nigeria National Malaria Elimination Program and the Kaduna state Epidemiology Unit of the Kaduna state Ministry of Health. She has also supported the Infection Prevention and Control Committee of the Kaduna state COVID-19 response. She is also a ProMED Anglophone Africa moderator for the International Society of Infectious Disease since January 2020. She is also a Handling Editor of the International Journal of Infectious Diseases. She is an alumnus of the Women leaders for the World 2017. Her main interests are Infectious Disease Epidemiology, Infection Prevention and Control, and Public Health Surveillance.

Elkin Hernan Bermudez-Aza holds a MD degree from Universidad del Rosario, completed a MSc in Tropical Medicine and Infectious Diseases in Fiocruz and a PhD in Infectious Diseases in UNIFESP, where his research project focused on resistance to HIV antiretroviral treatment. He has been working internationally in the global health field for more than 15 years in global organizations such as MSF and FIND

Elkin Hernan Bermudez-Aza

in the areas of Epidemiology, Infectious Diseases, Monitoring & Evaluation and Operational Research, supporting field teams in countries in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East and from headquarters in Europe. Previously, he worked in clinical research and participated in projects related to the treatment of neglected diseases in South America. Elkin is currently based in Colombia and will collaborate with the team in the management of the scientific program development.

Daniel Cady

Daniel Cady is a bookkeeper with ten plus years of accounting experience. Prior to joining ISID, Dan worked at GWI where he helped manage the day to day accounting functions. Before working for GWI, Dan worked at a top ten CPA firm providing outsourced bookkeeping services to for profit businesses and non-profit organizations. Dan earned his B.S. in Accounting from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).
