In Memoriam: The International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID) fondly remembers John McConnell, Editor-in-Chief, The Lancet Infectious Diseases

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing away of John McConnell, Editor-in-Chief of The Lancet Infectious Diseases.

“I am profoundly saddened by this sudden and tragic news and ISID has lost a truly great friend, wise advocate, and supporter. I’ve known John for many years and was honored to be on his International Editorial Board. John was looking forwards to being part of ISID’s Congress in Kuala Lumpur in 2022 and was just about to embark on working with ISID on championing the diverse roles of those working in infectious diseases around the world. On behalf of ISID, I express heartfelt sympathy and send condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues” says Prof. Alison Holmes, ISID’s current President.

Marc Mendelson, ISID Past-President, said “John was an excellent editor and a wonderful man. He was ever-present at ISID’s conferences, giving insightful lectures, participating on panels and social occasions, and bringing critical insights to all who heard him. He will be sorely missed and on behalf of all past presidents of ISID, I send our sincerest condolences to John’s family and friends.”

From his colleagues at ISID headquarters and around the globe, we send our deepest condolences to John’s many Lancet community members. He will remain in our thoughts and memories.
