Call for Applications for Editor-in-Chief for the International Journal of Infectious Diseases (IJID)

The International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID) invites applications for the position of Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Infectious Diseases (IJID).

The appointment will begin July 1, 2026, with a transition period. Full leadership of the journal is expected by October 1, 2026.

About the International Journal of Infectious Diseases

The International Journal of Infectious Diseases (IJID) is the flagship journal of ISID, with a 2024 Impact Factor of 4.3, ranking in Q1 of Infectious Diseases journals. The journal has established a strong global reputation for publishing high-quality research in infectious diseases.

Published monthly by the International Society for Infectious Diseases, IJID is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal that publishes:

  • Original clinical and laboratory-based research
  • Clinical trial reports
  • Review articles
  • Selected case reports

The journal focuses on the epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, and control of infectious diseases, with particular emphasis on diseases that are most prevalent in under-resourced countries.

Application Process for Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Infectious Diseases

Applications must be submitted by April 20, 2026.

The selection process will include virtual interviews on May 12–14, 2026. The newly appointed Editor-in-Chief will begin reviewing new manuscripts with the editorial team starting July 1, 2026, with full transition into the role expected by October 1, 2026.

Qualifications and Expectations

The Editor-in-Chief will lead IJID’s editorial strategy over the next 5–10 years, supported by an established editorial team, ISID staff, and the publisher.

ISID seeks candidates with:

  • A strong record of research and publication in infectious diseases
  • A clear strategic vision for the journal’s future growth and development
  • Demonstrated understanding of the economics of open-access journal publishing
  • A commitment to collaborative leadership, including working closely with ISID, the editors of sister journals (IJID Regions and IJID One Health), and the publisher, Elsevier
  • A demonstrated commitment to excellence in peer review and diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Significant editorial experience in academic publishing

Applicants should submit:

  • Full Curriculum Vitae (CV) in PDF format
  • A letter outlining your vision and goals for IJID (2026–2031), not exceeding two pages
