ISID Highlights Global AMR Surveillance Insights at GAMRIC 2025

London, United Kingdom – October 1-3, 2025

The International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID) participated in the inaugural Global AMR Innovators Conference (GAMRIC 2025) held at 116 Pall Mall, London. The three-day meeting brought together leading experts, innovators, and policymakers from around the world to address the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) through innovation, collaboration, and policy dialogue.

Organized as an independent platform following its roots within the ESCMID-ASM conference series, GAMRIC 2025 featured a comprehensive scientific agenda with plenary sessions, expert panels, lightning talks, posters, and exhibitions. Key sessions explored critical topics such as developing antibacterial therapies for neonates, AMR in sexually transmitted infections, R&D innovations for tuberculosis and antifungal diseases, and the role of diagnostics in managing AMR infections. Special lectures, including "Mirror Bacteria - A Future Threat," and interactive sessions on multidisciplinary care across income settings underscored the event’s global and cross-sectoral nature.

Representing ISID, Dr. Mohamed Sirdar, Global Program Specialist for AMR, delivered a lightning talk titled "ProMED-AMR surveillance across economies: a comparative analysis (2020–2024)". The presentation drew upon data from ProMED-AMR, ISID’s flagship platform for global AMR surveillance, to examine trends, progress, and challenges across high-, upper-middle-, and low-middle-income economies.

The study revealed steady progress in the implementation of National Action Plans and the integration of surveillance systems, along with increasing adoption of the One Health approach. However, significant gaps remain, particularly regarding regulatory enforcement, antibiotic misuse, and environmental contamination in low-resource settings. Common priorities across all economies included:

  • Strengthening integrated, harmonized AMR surveillance systems
  • Improving regulatory oversight of antimicrobial use
  • Expanding education and awareness among healthcare professionals and the public
  • Encouraging innovation in diagnostics, therapeutics, and environmental control

Dr. Sirdar emphasized that while High-Income Countries focus on transforming R&D incentives and building international capacity, LMICs continue to confront fundamental system challenges, including weak regulation and resource limitations. "Tailored interventions that address local realities, while sustaining international collaboration, are key to advancing the AMR response globally," he noted.

ISID’s participation at GAMRIC 2025 reaffirmed the organization’s leadership in advancing evidence-based AMR surveillance and its commitment to fostering collaborative solutions through platforms such as ProMED-AMR. The event provided an inspiring space for exchange among scientists, industry innovators, and public health leaders, fueling a unified momentum toward a resilient, One Health-driven AMR future.
